About Phil Bakis

I have enjoyed writing stories and poetry since I was younger. In middle school, one of my poems was selected to be in "The Young Poets Anthology" which is made up of poems from students around the country. That was when I realized that my passion for writing was stronger than I had imagined. In high school, I excelled in honors English. It was at that time I discovered I have the ability to turn my thoughts and ideas into pieces of work. My college essay alone was one of the major reasons why I had been accepted to Eastern Connecticut State University in 2008. While attending ECSU, I joined many clubs, participated in the on campus radio station 90.1FM, and helped establish the university’s first club ice hockey team. I took various classes in different styles of writing, such as business writing, storytelling, script writing, and many others. I also became more educated on the different forms of media such as TV, radio, and newspaper. Growing fond of radio production, I took an internship with i98.3FM in Willimantic. It was there that I learned how to use different audio editing programs, write and record radio spots for various local businesses, and co-hosted the i98.3FM morning show. I graduated from ECSU with a BS in Communication and a minor in Writing. Since then, I was able to balance working three part time jobs a week to stay above water as well as persistently applying to jobs related to my field. I have also had experience in a corporate atmosphere, and learned new skills along the way.
