About Phil Critchlow

CEO & Founding Director of multi award winning content and events agency, TBI Media. Phil has developed and delivered some of the highest profile projects across multiple genres and media platforms in the UK and internationally. Phil was made a Fellow of The Radio Academy in 2016, was given a Lifetime Achievement award for services to broadcasting in 2018 and was awarded an OBE for ‘Services to Radio and Television’ in the 2021 Queens New Year Honours list. As well as leading significant factual output he has a personal specialisation in music & entertainment, based events, from delivering full symphony orchestras to BBC & Commercial television, to cutting edge dance for BBC Radio 1 and online. As such he’s worked directly with some of the worlds highest profile performers and presenters in some of the most iconic locations. He began as a BBC trainee. After production across the corporation he moved to Unique Broadcasting rising to Director Of Programmes & overseeing many millions of pounds of production across thousands of hours of output. During his time on the management team the company was listed on AIM. On incorporating TBI Phil said : ‘When I started in the industry it was clear that things were going to change, but the revolution has proved to be more profound than we could ever have imagined. One thing remains constant though, the need for great content. Every media platform, venue and brand needs bold and ambitious ideas – that’s what we’re in business to provide’. TBI will produce around programmes this year, from regular output for the BBC and commercial clients to major broadcast events for television, radio and as podcasts. The Events Division will deliver over 100 major events globally. The company has over 250 awards, from Screen Awards to Sony and ARIA's to AIB's and over 60 New York Festivals awards including ‘Indie Of The Year’ for 7 years. Industry roles have included Founding Director and Chair of Audio UK. This involved liaison with the most senior figures in broadcasting and Government. Executive board positions and advisory roles include, or have included the Department for International Trade Creative Industries Trade Advisory Group' ‘The Educational Recording Agency’, ‘Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club’, ‘Classic Gold Networks’ ‘The Wavendon All Music Foundation’ Phil is an Industry Champion for the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre and takes part in the Speakers For Schools Initiative.
