About Phil Farris

After several years as a musician in Nashville, I decided to return to school for Strategic Communications in 2019 to expand my understanding of business and marketing. I plan to apply my degree to marketing and event planning for arts organizations, while still retaining my interest in teaching and performing. I have five years of experience as a performer, a strong background with planning events, a detailed approach to preparation, and a personal interest in promoting the arts. I hope to work with both for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations that provide music and arts education, plan events, and promote community engagement. My performing background includes playing with independent acts like Gnarly Parkers, The Sentimentals, and Louisa Wendorff, to performing with Macy Gray in 2016. Since 2021, I have worked as a music teacher, and was promoted to Assistant Music Director at my School of Rock location in October of 2022. In February of 2023, I was promoted to the full-time Music Director position. My current job at School of Rock has further solidified my love for the arts and helping other people learn more about music. In addition to musical growth, this role has developed my customer service, leadership, and interpersonal skills, as well as solidifying good organizational habits.
