Background
About Phil Foster
Phil Foster has demonstrated industry-changing technical achievements at Texas Instruments and Honeywell, and was an early contributor at two successful electronics startups. He is formally educated as a chemical engineer, and is a versatile specialist in microelectronics manufacturing and development with accomplishments in numerous technical areas including semiconductor processing, sensors, and thin film technology. Phil co-developed and commercialized the first nanoprober that revolutionized semiconductor chip development which has saved the industry hundreds of millions of dollars in new die spin costs. He single-handedly developed the first commercially successful through-ceramic substrate-via process that enabled multi-chip-module assembly and revolutionized high speed interconnects. He developed and commercialized a polymer-based material which eliminated the biggest process issue affecting the laser-processing industry and which became the industry de-facto solution. He has served on two different national and international standards committees serving both defense (JEDEC) and commercial segments, and currently serves on both CANENA and UL committees. He enabled Honeywell’s industry-leading ultra-low pressure sensor device line to be launched. He also developed the core physical vapor deposition technology supporting all of Honeywell’s airflow sensor product lines. Phil is a recognized expert in electroplating technology, and a semiconductor processing and materials specialist who is routinely consulted in these areas. Phil has owned and operated a successful consulting business since 1994 that provides technical consulting to a wide variety of manufacturing businesses and startups. Phil has contributed to 10 US patents. Phil approaches life as a continuous opportunity to learn, and enjoys reading, woodworking, antique car restoration, watching college basketball and spending time with family.
