About Phil Powers

I serve as Senior Counsel in the Commercial Practice Group at Handler Thayer, LLP. My practice is concentrated in the areas of business, corporate and securities law with an emphasis on domestic and international private equity formation and related transactions. My key contacts and relationships include private equity firms and investment bankers. As a corporate generalist, I advise clients on a wide range of issues that private business owners may confront. I have served as general counsel regulated financial services firms, focusing on domestic regulatory compliance. I also have over 20 years of litigation experience including jury trials to verdict as well as arbitrations and administrative proceedings. My litigation experience is focused on commercial cases and regulatory compliance for the securities and futures brokerage industry. Prior to joining Handler Thayer, LLP, I served as In-house Counsel for A-Street Capital Corporation, an investment banking firm concentrating on private equity transactions. Prior to A-Street, I was associated with Hinshaw & Culbertson and have been a partner in several other Chicago-based law firms. I earned a Bachelor of Sciences in Economics Degree from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and a Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Michigan School of Law in Ann Arbor. Michigan.
