Background
About Phil Ramsden
I have been working for 16 years at Imperial College, London, United Kingdom, as a teacher and e-learning developer: most recently as head of the METRIC Project. I have worked as Mathematics Content Consultant for London Gifted & Talented (LG & T), where I developed a number of learning resources for schools at LG & T, and trained teachers in their use. I now work on development of e-learning resources and curricula (in Mathematics, Engineering and Physical Chemistry) and short courses, as well as undergraduate lecturing (in Mathematics) and staff training. I run the METRIC Project, a subject-themed project (the focus being Mathematics), providing • online resources, short courses and tutorial support, for students at Imperial and those making the school-university transition; • support for school students from under-represented social groups in the London Region; • training staff and student tutors/mentors • developing Computer Algebra based learning resources. My role at Imperial College involves: • developing e-learning resources in Java and Mathematica; • lecturing; • coordinating evaluation; • coordinating training; • outreach. I am the academic leader and sponsor of the West London Further Mathematics Centre, which Imperial college hosts. I have served on the Curriculum Authority's A-level Mathematics Working Group. I run Imperial's Institute of Mathematical Sciences Summer School, and co-host our regular Mathematics Circles, run jointly with London's Royal Institution. I have hosted the International Mathematica Symposium, and now serve on its International Committee. I am a certified trainer for Wolfram Education Group, and also deliver training in symbolic computation to staff and students at Imperial College. I have co-written one textbook (Experiments in Undergraduate Mathematics), and co-edited the Proceedings of the 2003 International Mathematica Symposium. Specialties: e-learning, e-assessment, Mathematica, Java, mathematics, dynamical systems
