Background
About Phil Romano
Since graduating from Thomas Edison HS in NYC, I have been gainfully employed in the electric power industry. My experience includes high and low voltage power substation construction, maintenance and testing, power plant and sub-station capital projects including, engine/generators, emissions equipment, motor controls, power transformers, DC rectifiers, batteries and chargers, switchgears, ATO's, control power transformers, and distribution network protectors. Additionally, I have participated and directed storm restoration on 4KV and 13KV distribution systems, with expertise in overhead and underground line clearance and control. I possess a thorough knowledge of safety rules and work methods including confined space, lead, and asbestos abatement. While in Electric System Operations at LIPA, I attended college in the evenings and was promoted through the ranks to Senior System Operator. In May of 1995, I earned an A.S. in Business from Nassau CC with honors. In March of 2004, I acquired my NERC Transmission Operators license and supervised the daily operation of the Long Island electric system. During my tenure at National Grid, I was an integral part of the team representing Electric System Operations department in the development of the new SCADA system used to operate the LIPA electric system. Early in my career at LILCO and KEYSPAN, I acted as the project lead for the RTU/SCADA conversions of several high voltage transmission substations. In June of 2016, I was hired by the Village of Rockville Centre Municipal Electric Department where I expanded my skillset to include Diesel Generation, permitting, tariffs, compliance, emissions, and Municipal Electric Operations. I returned to PSEG Long Island in January of 2018 to pursue my current position as a Construction Supervisor in the Projects and Construction Department specializing in high voltage substation construction.
