About Phil Westoby

An operations, marketing and business development professional with a combined 20 years in the maritime and tourism sectors, Phil is currently with the Government of BC's Ministry of Jobs, Economic Development and Innovation's Trade and Industry development division as an industry policy analyst. Phil was formerly with Rocky Mountaineer in their head office in Vancouver as Senior Specialist, Product Development, and previously operated Westoby Consulting, guiding projects in cruise destination, product and terminal operations development and implementation. Phil's corporate work includes Expedia CruiseShipCenter providing competitive analysis under their promotional and corporate group program; Western Stevedoring managing security, safety, maintenance, marketing and ground transportation management for their Victoria cruise terminal contract, and spent six years at sea with Norwegian Cruise Lines in excursion operations and sales. Phil has also worked in trade development both as a consultant for the Greater Victoria Harbour Authority, and as Cruise Development Coordinator, Prince Rupert Port Authority. Phil is proud to have worked as a director with six industry boards and committees : Ogden Point Enhancement Society, Tourism Prince Rupert, Northern BC Tourism, CruiseBC, Prince Rupert's Cruise Taskforce, and the Tourism Victoria Transportation Committee. A supporter of BC's arts communities, Phil has worked and volunteered with Pacific Opera Victoria, Opera Studio Victoria, Open Space Studio Gallery (Victoria), and the Victoria Fringe Festival. Phil, a 3rd generation mariner, prefers to spend his spare time as close to or on the water, either scubadiving, snorkeling, kayaking or sailing. On land, he can be found enjoying the hiking trails and camping with his wife, young son and collie shephard cross, when not gardening or renovating their Vancouver home.
