Background
About Philip Bien
I started my professional career after college as a Quality Engineer at Raytheon NCS in Fort Wayne, IN. The Quality Engineering role is an extremely important function for a standardized business. My time there involved several instances of problem solving while supporting program management with periodic ISO check ups. I performed minor roles as an auditor, but did most of my work in product inspections. I was trained to review workmanship based on J-STD-001 for electronics devices and verified dimensions based on intellectual property in the model shop. I participated in several "fire" drills that led to high visibility projects (from a corporate standpoint). These "fire" drills were a good opportunity for me to be a part of the ground floor in retrieving important data and reporting the findings to management. During my time with Raytheon, I had the chance to work in the Mechanical Engineering department. This experience better fit the knowledge and skills that I had gained in undergrad, but the work was only part time and temporary for most of my career with Raytheon. I left Raytheon in February of 2012 to move to Denver, CO where I joined Cameron International as a Quality Engineer in their field operations. Cameron was in the process of installing a new quality system at their field repair facilities, and I represented the Quality side for Cameron's eight repair facilities in the western US. The job entailed interaction with various sites and travel to these sites to answer questions and introduce the proposed quality system. I left Cameron to pursue a career changing opportunity by going back to school for my Master's in Bioengineering. I hope to utilize my engineering skills to benefit the healthcare industry. Whether I will be designing products that benefit the care givers or products that interact with people directly, I believe there is no better way to benefit people with my engineering skills.
