About Philip Coyle

A retired European Patent Attorney with extensive experience in Intellectual Property Matters, specialising primarily in the areas of physics, electronics and general engineering. He has worked in areas such as Automotive engineering, solid state electronics, fuel cells, encryption, green energy, medical devices and equipment and telecoms. Work primarily split between original drafting, filing and prosecution work for local clients and European filing and prosecution work on behalf of foreign clients. He has filed and prosecuted Patent applications globally. Phil has experience of Oppositions and Appeals at the EPO and recently was successful in an opposition representing a well known US university against multiple opponents. Throughout his career phil has been involved in infringement and validity matters in a number of European countries in various industries including Automotive, medical and green energy and various engineering areas. He represents a number of US corporations in Europe and also a number of US universities. He has been involved in training new entrants to the Profession and supervising associate Attorneys. A Chartered Physicist, a Chartered Engineer and is a member of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Engineers in Ireland. A member of LES, AIPPI and FICPI. President of the Admission Commission (FICPI-The international Association of Patent Attorneys in Private Practice )and a former Rapporteur General Of the FICPI CET commission. Phil has travelled extensively through the world visiting clients and Associates and was a regular attendee at the Asian Patent Attorneys Association for many years. He has also attended AIPLA and FICPI meetings for many years. Recommended for patent prosecution in Europe in Intellectual Asset Management IAM Patent 2015, 2016 and 2017.
