About Philip Crain

Scientific discovery through research and development (R&D) helps power innovation and economic growth. Smart investment strategies in R&D can foster rapid experimentation and yield breakthroughs that generate real value for customers and businesses. However, success and timelines for scientific discovery are variable and uncertain while the costs are real and time-bound. Therefore, businesses may fail to grow by both underinvesting and over-investing in R&D. I aim to help create innovation and business value by exploring this dilemma. I am a classically trained scientist who studied evolutionary ecology. My scientific fascination is complex systems and mathematical models that are useful to explain them. These experiences give me a deep technical knowledge, the ability to learn quickly, but also creates a connection with scientists. I want to help them be successful.I then entered the Agricultural industry where I learned about our passionate farmer customers and their challenges. Helping them by creating new products became another passion. Through innovative projects, I also learned how new routes-to-market could unlock business value. For me, it changed my future. I want to create an R&D organization where scientists can follow their passion, build innovative products and solutions that meet customer needs, and create business value. Onward and upward.
