Background
About Philip Harrison
I provide high-level, strategic legal advice to The Australian National University’s Council, the Vice-Chancellor, members of the University Executive and other senior staff, taking an enterprise view of risk, always working to advance ANU's strategy. I lead the University Legal Office in its efficient provision of cohesive legal services to ANU’s Administrative and Academic Units, and I am ultimately responsible for all legal services of the University, as ANU's chief lawyer. In addition, I head ANU's Legal, Governance & Risk Division. I graduated with First Class Honours in Law from the University of Sydney, then served as an Associate to a Justice of the High Court. I have held senior positions in the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department and the Office of Parliamentary Counsel. I have worked in a number of top-tier national law firms, most recently for seven years as Special Counsel with Clayton Utz. Prior to joining ANU’s University Legal Office, I was the inaugural Chief Legal Counsel at IP Australia.
