About Philip Hipskind
Philip A Hipskind, Ph.D. earned his BS degree from Indiana University and his doctorate in organic chemistry (completing the total synthesis of both sterepolide & merulidial) with Prof. Barry Trost at Stanford University in 1991 where he was both an American Chemical Society Predoctoral and a Tamaki Foundation Fellow. Dr. Hipskind directly joined Lilly Research Laboratories as a medicinal chemist that same year. While at Lilly, he created a robust discovery and development portfolio from target to clinical proof of concept spanning Oncology, Endocrinology, Neuroscience, and Infectious Disease across small molecule, therapeutic protein, and antibody modalities. In addition to 14 first human dose milestones (including inventor of 6 generically named entities lanepitant, tasisulam, tildacerfont, taladegib, adomeglivant, and crenigacestat), he has contributed significantly to both R&D effectiveness through gene family lead generation and therapeutic area platform leadership. Phil holds 46 issued US patents, has 7 additional pending, and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications. He was also a founding and voting member of the TB Drug Accelerator of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a member/chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the TB Alliance. Dr. Hipskind was a long-time member of the Lilly Portfolio Management Team overseeing all pre-clinical and clinical phase assets for LRL, and now serves as a member of the TB Drug Accelerator, Portfolio Management Team in the same capacity as well as the Portfolio Coordination Team focused on all early stage projects. In 2018 Dr. Hipskind founded Lgenia Inc. to focus on lead generation for neglected diseases that disproportionately affect people living in poverty. Currently Lgenia is a full collaborating member organization and a repeat Gates Foundation Grantee associated with both the TB Drug Accelerator as well as the Malaria Drug Accelerator, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Lgenia has also been the lead generation partner for the Indiana University School of Medicine, Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Center focused on neuro-immune targets in neurodegeneration since 2019 (co-PI NIH grants extending until 2029).
