About Philip Maechling

As a computer scientist working for the Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC), I develop and perform large-scale seismic hazard calculations using high performance computing on large collaborative scientific and engineering projects. I also develop and release open-source seismological and engineering software used in ground motion modeling and simulations. Before joining SCEC, I was a Member of the Professional Staff in the Caltech Seismological Laboratory in Pasadena, California. While at Caltech, I worked on the TriNet project with scientists and software developers at Caltech and USGS to develop a state-of-the-art data acquisition and real-time earthquake monitoring system. My commercial software development experience includes firmware development for two-way mobile radios at an industrial radio manufacturer, software design and development for Hughes Aircraft and TRW on military command and control systems, design and development work on a National Missile Defense special study, and software development on high-capacity, multi-tier, commercial web sites at Cysive and Kaiser Permenante.
