About Philip Mather

Phil leads Economical Insurance's finance, corporate development, investments, analytics, procurement, corporate services and reinsurance teams. In addition to these leadership responsibilities he provides critical support to a range of strategic initiatives, including the company's demutualization project and the significant investment it is making in its infrastructure and distribution platforms. He continues to lead efforts to enhance the company's public company readiness and the development of its mergers and acquisitions strategy, capabilities and associated investments. He remains accountable for the management of a number of key external stakeholder relationships, including financial advisors, regulatory bodies and rating agencies. During 2015, Phil also provided interim coverage for the Chief Risk Officer role and the management of the Enterprise Risk Management function. Phil sits on a number of governance related committees, including the company's Management Risk Committee, Demutualization Steering Committee and Policy Administration System Steering Committee. He also represents the company as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of Family Insurance Solutions and President of Economical Financial, its broker financing and investing arm. Phil previously acted as the Vice-Chair of the IBC Financial Affairs Committee and has presented at a number of property and casualty insurance forums. He is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and holds the ICD.D designation, graduating in March 2017. Prior to joining Economical, Phil was a partner in the audit and assurance practice of global professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, specializing in financial services and, in particular, property and casualty insurance.
