About Philip Pitruzzello
Philip is a leader in corporate real estate, development, and world-class commercial and institutional projects, with a focus on creating cutting-edge, transformative workplaces and communities. For over 30 years, Philip has been an innovator, bringing new ideas to development, design and construction. His experience spans ground up and interior/inside out design and construction, and his strengths include anchor tenant transactions, re-imagining workplaces, building and leading teams, efficient project execution and developing strong relationships with stakeholders. Philip has extensive experience leading major real estate initiatives and in 2023 was recognized as Corporate Real Estate Executive of the Year by CoreNet New York. As a Managing Director at BlackRock Philip led the planning and execution of the firm’s New York real estate strategy, culminating in a new approx. 1 million sq. ft. global headquarters in Hudson Yards. Notable outcomes include fully integrating the physical and digital workplace environment, enabling a tech-centric approach to work, incorporating flexible architecture to anticipate the future of work, and representing BlackRock's culture in all aspects of design. Previously, Philip oversaw the development, design, and construction of Columbia University’s highly acclaimed 17-acre,$6 billion mixed use academic campus in West Harlem, being built in phases over three decades. The first phase features new facilities for research, office, cultural and retail activity. Under his leadership, the project was awarded the first ever LEED Platinum campus certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Prior to his tenure at Columbia, he headed corporate real estate at Time Warner and was responsible for Time Warner’s 1 million sq. ft. corporate global headquarters and broadcast center and facilitated corporate co-locations. Earlier in his career, Philip was an assistant counsel to Gov. Mario Cuomo and a partner in a real estate banking firm. He served with the Battery Park City Authority in several senior management capacities, including President and CEO, helping to transform the 92-acre area into a thriving office, residential and retail community. Philip is a director of the Bowery Residents Committee and a member of the International Real Estate Group and CoreNet New York. Previously, he was a director of the Apollo Theater Foundation and co-chair of New Yorkers for Parks. He received a B.A. from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from Boston University.
