About Philip Regier

I am the university dean for educational initiatives and CEO of EdPlus at Arizona State University. As university dean for educational initiatives, I am primarily responsible for expanding the university’s online programming and increasing access to ASU for students who cannot attend a brick-and-mortar campus. Beginning in the role in 2009, the fully online student population has grown from 400 to more than students, and online programs have grown from six to more than 360 as of May 2024. In my role as CEO of EdPlus@ASU, I am responsible for creating and mobilizing a team of talented individuals to advance the university’s leadership role in education innovation. Some notable examples of innovation resulting from the efforts of the team at EdPlus include the Starbucks College Achievement Plan, which allows Starbucks partners in the U.S. to obtain a degree from ASU Online with no out-of-pocket cost for tuition. The Global Freshman Academy, launched in 2015 on the edX platform, provided first-year college-level courses to nontraditional students worldwide who were able to transfer their credits to pursue a degree program at ASU or another university. The program has evolved into a set of signature Universal Learner courses now offered by the Learning Enterprise at ASU. Study Hall, a partnership between YouTube, Complexly, and ASU, is a YouTube channel that provides needed information about the process of going to a university and different majors; it also allows students to move from curiosity to credit-bearing coursework in under ten clicks. Regier earned his undergraduate degree from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico as a philosophy major and math minor. He also holds a doctorate in accountancy from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
