About Philip Rushby

I have been a founding technical director of 3 technology companies, in each case leading the technical design and development to produce products & services both in the UK and globally. I also developed/coded key areas of the product development, both back-end and front-end. I am currently employed as a Principal Java Engineer in the Digital group at Costain plc. My work there is mainly systems development and support services for various large systems for UK transport organisations supplying critical national infrastructure. This involves operational technology such as CCTV cameras, camera video stream and control sharing, automated CCTV testing and motorway signs. I also act as mentor and line manager to more junior colleagues. At Wizix, I built and managed a technology team which delivered a mobile video chat app supporting up to 12 concurrent participants long before Skype or other video chat apps. It had a secure, scalable and robust backend capable of supporting millions of chats and hundreds of millions of users. The 'Get Close and Personal' app was a global, digital 'meet and greet' platform. It was for anyone who has a 'following', to provide personal video messages and one-to-one live video calls to their follower base (think music stars, actors, sports stars, business leaders, religious leaders, influencers etc). All live video calls and messages were recorded in perfect 4K video and delivered to the follower on their mobile app (iOS and Android). He has the breadth to work at board-level strategy as well as technical detail and implementation. He has successfully demonstrated the ability to bridge the gap between technology, finance and commercial centres of a business. His ability to design and implement successful technology products and platforms from inception to deployment and operation – multi-site and multi-national has been demonstrated multiple times. He has experience of a broad range of technologies including multi-media, web, mobile devices, databases, networking, telecoms, video, communications, programming and systems design. His approach to team building through selection of excellent candidates, training and empowering them to take ownership of their work and performing at optimum efficiency has proven to work well time and again.
