About Philip Russel

Philip Samuel Russel is the Dean of the School of Business at Thomas Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia University). He joined the university in and has since held leadership roles including Associate Vice Provost, Dean of Graduate Studies, Interim Dean of the School of Business, Associate Dean of Kanbar College, and Program Director of the Undergraduate Business Program. As a faculty member, he has taught a wide range of undergraduate and graduate finance courses. Before joining Philadelphia University, Philip taught accounting and finance at Morgan State University (Maryland), Thompson Rivers University (British Columbia, Canada), Beijing Concord College of Sino-Canada (China), the University of New Brunswick (Canada), and the University of Massachusetts. He has also served as a reviewer for leading finance textbooks and conducted training workshops and lectures for organizations such as the World Bank, the Certified Financial Planner program, and the Canadian Securities Course. Philip’s research focuses on corporate bankruptcy and managed portfolios. He has published more than fifty articles in academic journals and presented at numerous international conferences. His work on corporate bankruptcy has been cited widely in the media, including CNBC, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today. Having lived for extended periods in India, Canada, the U.S, and China, Philip has also traveled extensively across North America, Europe, and Asia. Beyond his academic career, he enjoys time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, tennis, music, reading, and participating in Christian ministries. He earned his Ph.D. in Finance from the University of Massachusetts–Amherst, an MBA from Morgan State University, and both an MA in Business Economics and a BBA (Honors) from the University of Delhi.
