About Philipp Paech

I work as an educator, consultant and policy-maker specialising in regulation and the law of financial services for more than 20 years, for the past years focussing on Digital Finance / FinTech regulation. I was the chair of an EU Commission expert group on the regulation of digital finance (ROFIEG), and our recommendations became one of the foundational documents for the EU Digital Finance Strategy.I am teaching and researching at London School of Economics and Political Science, an incredible place to develop and test new ideas, both in terms of education and research. Here, my educational portfolio comprises master courses on International Financial Regulation and International Financial Law, plus four executive master courses, including on Digital Finance. Highlights at LSE are my two intensive executive 'short courses' on Global Financial Regulation and on Global Regulation of Digital Finance which run every year.Since the academic year 2022-23 I am a Distinguished Global Professor at Notre Dame University (USA). I held a number of visiting appointments over the years, most recently as a visiting professor for Digital Finance / FinTech regulation at the EUI in Florence 2020-2022, Institute for Law and Finance (Frankfurt 2021-present, and at Bocconi in Milan in 2022. I am a fellow of the British Higher Education Academy and the educator part of my role was always close to my heart. I continuously work on improving my students' learning experience, both at university and for my executives courses. I strive to deliver content and build skills using an electrifying, innovative educational approach which won me the LSE teaching prize in 2018. While pre-pandemic I thought continuous tweaking and staying enthusiastic about my students was all that was needed to stay on top of things, I quickly accepted that hybrid will stay to some extent. and I actually like it.I also work as a consultant in London and Frankfurt, including for institutional clients such as the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the European Parliament and the European Commission.
