About Philipp Schlotthauer

My school education probably started out differently than you would expect from a (soon to be) lawyer. Instead of attending the school with the highest educational level as is usual for German lawyers my first steps led me to a school with an educational level after which an academic career seems unattainable. Back then, no one would have thought that I could achieve a career in law. But today, I belong to the top 100 of the 1476 candidates who took part in my exams, work as a research assistant at the faculty of law and write my doctoral thesis. However, it seemed even less likely to me that my professional career is now leading me on a path where I can combine my professional career with my personal passion. I am fortunate to be writing my doctoral thesis on employment law aspects of esports and to be co-founder of the first research center for esports law in Europe. This gives me the rare opportunity to contribute to the development of a new field of research. Yet, the best part of my career is not success, but the fantastic people I work with every day - be it with colleagues on joint projects, with students in university teaching or with people in adult education.
