About Philippa Parks

I graduated from McGill in 1998 from the B.Ed program (Double major: English and TESL). I taught English and ESL at a private French high school in downtown Montreal for nearly ten years, and then took a break to write ESL textbooks, and do my Master’s in English Literature at Concordia University. I’ve been teaching undergraduate teachers in the TESL program at McGill and UQAM since 2011 and have remained very active in the ESL community in Quebec over the past 15 years, giving conferences and workshops annually at the SPEAQ (Societe pour la perfectionnement de l’enseignement de l’anglais langue seconde au Quebec), SPEAQ Campus, RASCALS (Regroupement au service des cégeps, anglais langue seconde) DEESL (Development of Enriched ESL in Québec) and CASLT (Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers). In 2016, I started my doctorate with the goal of determining how to improve undergraduate ESL teacher training in Quebec. In my research I explore second language teacher education programs and how they influence teacher resilience through the development of teacher efficacy. I am thrilled to announce that I will be starting a new position as Professeure Adjointe d’anglais langue seconde at Université de Sherbrooke in August 2021!
