About Philippe Pharand

Hi, I'm a graduate student at Université de Montréal in biomedical science. I specialized in cardiovascular anatomy. My master’s project aims to test an innovative unclotting pre-injection solution for perfused cadavers in educational settings using the Life Engine system for endovascular surgical interventions. My main interest is to manage brain, heart and peripheral post-mortem vascular clots in a gross anatomy lab setting. The general idea of my thesis is to optimize teaching workshops held by gross anatomy labs learning specific surgical abilities, such as endovascular interventions performed by radiology and vascular residents. What's the interest? Many universities teaching anatomy to health professionals lack optimal anatomical education. Gross anatomy labs allow students to enhance their anatomy skills. Dissection is known for improvement in anatomic knowledge, it is essential to optimize what can be offered to elevate the knowledge transfer level. I believe that specialized gross anatomy labs will elevate the quality of education given to the next generation of health professionals (e.g. general surgery).
