About Philips Vermonte

PhD in Comparative Politics from Northern Illinois University funded by Fulbright scholarship, MA in International Studies from the University of Adelaide, Australia, BA in International Relations from Padjadjaran University in Indonesia. My research interest includes: comparative politics, Indonesian politics, political party, election study, voting behavior, democratization, Indonesia's foreign policy and international relations. I served CSIS Indonesia's Executive Director from January 2016 to December 2020 first term) and from December 2020 to January 2022 (second term unfinished due to another appointment at the University). Now I am Senior Fellow at CSIS. I was the principal investigator/coordinator of CSIS' public opinion surveys twice a year (from 2012 to 2021). Also setting up a new research unit at CSIS Indonesia titled Disaster Management Research Unit (DMRU) that focuses research on aspects related to disaster mitigation and disaster preparedness. I led the DMRU CSIS since the time of its establishment in 2018. Since April 2021 I have been appointed as Dean of Faculty of Social Sciences at the Indonesian International Islamic University a new university established by the Indonesian government that only offers MA and PhD programs for Indonesian and international students. Now, students of come from than 35 countries. Starting 2022, we open a Master of Public Policy program focusing on Climate Change. Outside the official appointment, I have been serving as President of the Indonesian Pollsters Association (Persepi), a nation-wide professional association that has 40 public opinion organizations from all over Indonesia, from 2016-2020 (first term) and 2020-2024 (second term). Starting 2025, i serve as a Board of Trustees member at AMINEF/Fulbright. Also, member of Board of Advisor for KEMITRAAN Indonesia.
