Dr. Phillip Drew, CD, is a leading scholar and practitioner in the law of armed conflict and maritime security. A retired Canadian military officer with more than 30 years of service in the Intelligence Branch and Legal Branch, he combines extensive operational experience with academic expertise in international law, particularly in the areas of naval warfare, blockade law, maritime security, and use of force. As an Associate Professor at the Australian National University College of Law he taught International Humanitarian Law and Maritime Security Law before returning to Canada where he is now a Fellow at the Centre for International and Defence Policy. His research, widely cited in both scholarly and policy circles, explores the evolving intersection between maritime operations and the laws governing armed conflict and transnational crime.
