About Phloeun Prim

In 9 years as Executive Director of Cambodian Living Arts, I have spearheaded our transformation from a grassroots project reviving traditional arts to the leading cultural agency in Cambodia. We have extended our reach from local to international programming, and now seek to become a hub for cultural activities both in Cambodia and in the wider Mekong region. A real highlight of my time at Cambodian Living Arts so far has been the Season of Cambodia festival in New York April-May 2013. This $2.6 million project, involving 125 artists, and 34 presenting partners including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, symbolizes how far both CLA and the artistic sector of Cambodia itself have come over the last decade. In Cambodia, our range of activities has grown to include supporting scholarships for arts students, a fellowship program for cultural changemakers, developing a sustainable market for the arts within Cambodia, and building regional networks for co-operation and joint innovation. I have recently contributed to international forums including- Salzburg Global Forum for Young Cultural Innovators - Asia 21 Young Leaders Initiative - Southeast Asian Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Culture Taiwan - The Aspen Institute: Aspen Ideas Festival - Asia-Europe Foundation: Public Forum on Creative Cities in Asia and Europe In the coming years we are focusing our efforts to - enable artists and cultural leaders by providing training, funding, resources and networks- integrate arts and culture into life experiences of young people- expand audiences and markets for Cambodian performing artists- facilitate beneficial connections and collaborations between arts communities in Cambodia and Asia. These strategic priorities are exciting endeavours, and I’m looking forward to connecting with like-minded individuals from across the region and further afield.
