About Phoebe Chen

Professor Phoebe Chen is Professor and Chair at the Department of Computer Science and IT, La Trobe University, Melbourne Australia since April 2010. She was Head of Department of Computer Science and Computer Engineering from Sep 2010 to April 2012. Phoebe is the Chief Investigator of ARC Centre of Excellence in Bioinformatics since 2003. Prof. Chen received her BInfTech degree with First Class Honours and PhD in Computer Science from the University of Queensland. Phoebe was an Associate Professor at the School of IT, Deakin University from Dec 2003 to April 2010. Phoebe has been a Associate Lecturer, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Information Technology at Queensland University of Technology from Jul to Nov 2003. Phoebe is currently working on knowledge discovery technologies and is especially interested in their application to genomics and biomedical science or emerging IT. Her research focus is to find best solutions for visualizing, mining, integrating and analyzing complex data structure and functions for scientific and biomedical applications. She has been working in the area of bioinformatics, multimedia, scientific visualization, data mining and knowledge discovery co-authored over 200 research papers with many published in top journals and conferences such as Bioinformatics, Nucleic Acids Research, Current Drug Metabolism, DMKD, Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, TKDE, Information Systems, and ACM Transactions. Phoebe is Editor-in-Chief of Current Bioinformatics and steering committee chair of Asia-Pacific Bioinformatics Conference (founder) and International conference on Multimedia Modelling. She has been on program committees of over 100 international conferences, including top ranking conferences such as ACM MM, ICDE, ICPR, ISMB, CIKM etc. Phoebe is a senior member of and ACM.
