About Phoebe Daroyanni

I am a doctor of clinical psychology with experience in the delivery of mental health services in the United States and in Greece. My orientation is psychodynamic, relational, systems theory, and mindfulness-based. I integrate these approaches to increase my clients’ mentalizing skills, emotional awareness, and ability to utilize feelings constructively in their lives. Although a psychodynamic practitioner, I am an active voice in session by temperament and orientation. I work collaboratively with my clients to identify and work through long-standing thought and behavior patterns that get in the way of their professional success and satisfaction in intimate relationships. I believe that every one of us has the necessary mental reserve and capacity to make effective creative adaptations in life. My work, therefore, focuses on setting in motion a person’s own unique set of resources in the pursuit of desired outcomes. My areas of specialty include organizational and community dynamics, program development, vocational and social reintegration, life transitions, becoming an adult, immigration, acculturation, liaison services, trauma, war veterans’ readjustment and combat-related ptsd, psychological assessment, clinical supervision, relational difficulties, persistent mental illness, and substance abuse. As an M.A. candidate in Media Studies, I am passionate about exploring the interfaces of private and public experience, where individual stories find their place and shape our collective narratives. Through my practice, I seek to investigate the mediating power new technologies have on community, identity, and relationships. My thesis is that technologies of learning and new media (telepsychology, online therapy, apps, interactive devices) can advance the delivery of treatment, reinforce the role of individuals as active agents in their lives, and reconfigure our therapeutic paradigms and our cultural notions of psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.
