About Phoenix Seelochan

As a Political Science and Economics student at the University of Toronto, I am driven by a passion for policy innovation, global security, and climate action advocacy. My academic foundation, combined with hands-on experience in government, NGOs, and student leadership roles, equips me with the tools to analyze complex challenges and deliver impactful solutions. As the Program Editor Team Lead at the NATO Association of Canada, I launched the Environment, Climate Change, and Security Program to explore the intersection of climate issues and global security, critiquing current climate security frameworks and policies and evolving my research skills. I also led the publications team, which sharpened my leadership and team management skills. Helping to also coordinate events and projects gave me collaborative experience with high-profile professionals. My federal government roles at Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada and the Canada Border Services Agency have allowed me to refine my policy analysis, data management, and government administration experience, ensuring compliance and efficiency in high-stakes environments. On campus, I advocate for inclusivity as the VP of Finance with UTM Campus Connections. Hosting events, mentoring peers, and managing finances have honed my ability to foster meaningful connections and build community resilience. I further support student academia as the Academics Director on the Undergraduate Economics Council, fostering initiatives that provide guidance and opportunities to economics students. I aspire to craft policies that address climate change, foster equitable economic growth, and enhance global security. By merging my technical proficiency in econometrics and policy analysis with my commitment to sustainability, I aim to shape a future where innovation meets action to solve ongoing global challenges. I am hoping to pursue a Master of Public Policy and I am open to work opportunities to enhance my experience!
