About Phyllis MacLay

I love writing almost as much as chocolate. I used to limit myself to fiction or children's plays, but when I worked for Kathy Cunningham at BELLA Magazine I discovered I had the knack for making nonfiction intriguing. It's that first line that pulls people into the story. I ask," Why would someone want to read this article?" That's a good focus when writing anything. Over the years I've had publications in Parent Magazine, CSS Publishing Company, Easy Street Magazine, Bella Magazine, Nights of Horseplay (anthology), Hitchhiking 2006 (anthology), various local newspapers, and currently am ready to publish with Go Aiken Magazine. My novel, a family drama titled A Bone for the Dog, is published with Booklocker.com. Specialties: Magazine articles, fiction, stories from children's point of view, and I write nonfiction so it is NOT boring! I have a knack for working with children and supporting my co-workers. I received the GEM (Giving Even More) award at Oakwood Windsor Elementary in 2019-2020 and finished in the final 5 for the school district. Being a teacher's aide was one of the best jobs I ever had. That and writing. Our family of six kids and now the grans, has included cats and dogs; today we are "down to" 2 dogs and 4 cats. Unless you count the 25 chickens that roam in a large fenced -in area ( we have night visitors who would love take-out chicken) that partially earn their keep with fresh eggs and free entertainment (running chickens are hilarious). I like to bake and am drawn to tasting cookie dough. Yes, yes, mine is safe to eat; remember I have fresh eggs. I love good music; even got to hear sweet Baby James and Elton last year. Almost cried to realize I was really hearing and seeing them. Felt the same way when I walked into Disney World for the first time a few years ago. Trying to grasp the realization: I'm here! Now if I could only get to a Paul McCartney concert.
