About Pia Wolff-Helminen

I’m an outgoing, well organised and efficient person, who enjoys working and isn’t afraid of challenges. These qualities developed early, growing up as I did in the small family business. Enterprise and entrepreneurship still interests me and the thought of starting my own business doesn't scare me. I’m easy to work with and always full of ideas. “Learn from your mistakes and experiences”, “never wave aside criticism, there’s probably some truth hidden in it” and “always find something good even in the weakest performance” are mottos I live by. I admire good and just leadership but find a certain amount of firmness of character important in a good leader. The world of art history is constantly changing, bringing new aspects of established ideas, which is why I find broadening my knowledge and horizons important. Developing and updating my teaching skills is equally important and something I owe my students as well as my employer. Since the emergence of art is dependent on society, I’m as comfortable reading Financial Times as I am studying world politics and latest scientific news. What happens in the world simply interests me. In my spare time, you’ll find me on the golf course, relaxing in the archipelago, or spending quality time with my family and friends. I also engage myself in society/club activities and find it thrilling and challenging arranging events of different kinds for the benefit of children and elderly. I enjoy my life and honestly, I believe I make a good asset to any employer or society/association.Specialities: university teaching, online teaching, renaissance art and architecture, architectural history, a wide general knowledge of art history, association management, organisation skills and great deal of patience.Special fields of interest: art and architecture as power symbols; politics and art; the impact of the industrial revolution on the arts; expression of status and wealth thru art; city planning and the processes behind it.
