About Pierce Ocallaghan

I started my career the financial services sector in Dublin in the Bank of New York and Ernst & Young before going back to university to gain a qualification in sports management at night. I then moved to Edinburgh, Scotland where I was employed by Scottish Athletics as Events Manager from 2004-2006 before moving to the Olympic Capital Lausanne, Switzerland to take up the role of Director of Communications for the European Athletics Association from 2006-2009. Due to family reasons, I moved back to Ireland in 2009 and set up my own sports management & consulting company SAVVY Sports. I worked with UK Athletics when London bid and won the right to organise the IAAF World Athletics Championships in the Olympic Stadium in 2017. Subsequently I went on to be the Director of Operations for the London 2017 Local Organisaing Committee. Additionally I advised the government of Azerbaijan on their strategy to organise the European Games in 2015 and was one of the two European Olympic Committee's lead advisors for the development and launch of "The European Games" and I served as a Member of the EOC Coordination Commission. Subsequently I went on to be the Director of Sport for the Baku 2015 Organising Committee leading a team of over 120 professional staff to organise 20 sports for athletes from 50 countries. Separately, I am an elected member of the European Athletics Association Competition Committee and the IAAF Competition Commissioned having being appointed an International Technical Official at 4 Olympic Games and 4 World Championships. I am currently consulting on the Minsk 2019 European Games, the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha.
