About Pierre Chuard

I completed my PhD in Behavioural Ecology under the co-supervision of Drs. James Grant and Grant Brown. I have since performed or started three different postdoctoral projects around the world, and currently work at the border of ecology and public health as a research associate. My PhD thesis dealt with the exploration of intraspecific competition patterns under variability in type and availability of resource, predation risk and other biotic and abiotic environmental variables using wild-caught Trinidadian guppies, both in the laboratory and in the field. My extra-thesis projects dealt with neophobia, and more specifically how predation risk affects its patterns (see publication). My first postdoctoral position led me and other members of the team to start an ongoing project on the effects of water flow, temperature, and personality on diel activity in three sympatric salmonid species in the field in Northern Iceland. After successfuly defending my PhD, I started a second postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University in Canada, on the effects of ocean acidification on the survival of a cubozoan species. I took a 6-month leave on this project to perform a research fellowship in Australia at ANU looking at reverse p-hacking in behavioural ecology, and the interaction of maternal and environmental effects on offspring performance in seed beetles. I currently work as a Professor at Marianopolis College. I teach various biology and science classes. I’m also a Part-time Professor at the University of Ottawa where I teach courses in Ecology and Biology.
