About Pierre Durant

Pierre Durant is a graduate student at James Madison University pursuing a career in the field of School Counseling. He currently is a graduate peer mentor through the Centennial Scholars Program which is a diversity and scholarship initiative aimed at serving underrepresented populations and minorities. He also is one of four leadership team members who oversee a group of sixteen graduate peer mentors that assist undergraduate centennial scholars in the pursuit of success in their collegiate endeavors. He is also the social chair of the Alpha Sigma chapter of Chi Sigma Iota which is an international honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators established at Ohio University in 1985. Pierre Durant is also a dedicated member of the Virginia Counselors Association where he has presented on research entitled: Helping Counselors Support First-Generation College Students in Multi-Culturally Sensitive Ways: Career Exploration and Decision-Making at an annual convention in 2015. He received his Bachelor's of Science in December of 2013 from George Mason University and will complete his Masters Degree in School Counseling with a focus on adolescents. He has served as a Peer Advisor advising freshmen at George Mason University regarding how to achieve success at the university level upon transitioning from high school. He also was a co-director of Peer Mediation Partners which equips students with skills necessary for the mediation process through the School of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University. This group has a partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools and the Northern Virginia Mediation Service. Upon receipt of his Master of Education he will be seeking employment geared toward the development of counseling skills and the mental healthcare field.
