About Piyush Mehta

I’m a Software Product Engineer in the Raster Analysis group at Esri, where I focus on testing and enhancing the capabilities of ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Enterprise. I'm passionate about finding solutions for sustainable water use through spatial analysis and data science. I recently completed my PhD in Geography and Spatial Sciences from University of Delaware, where I developed a global gridded raster product of irrigated areas, using tools like Python, ArcPy, and ArcGIS Pro. This dataset maps the expansion of irrigated areas and helps in understanding it's impacts on water sustainability. Prior to that I worked as a Geospatial Data Scientist at the Indian School of Business. Throughout my career, I have contributed to a range of high-impact projects centered around global food security, irrigation, and biodiversity, with my research published in leading journals such as Science, Science Advances, Nature Communications, Nature Water, and Nature Reviews. I bring 9+ years of expertise in a variety of statistical softwares and programming languages, including Python, R, MATLAB, Stata, JavaScript, C++, HTML, and VBA, enabling me to work across diverse platforms and complex data environments to deliver meaningful insights.
