PROFILE STATEMENT Past and current research interest include the use of numerical models at different time and length scales for describing physical and chemical phenomena occurring in chemical engineering processes. Indeed, materials & process modeling and simulation have become accurate, fast and inexpensive to significantly reduce time to market and development effort. The activity research concerns use of multi-scale computational methods combining several approaches for predicting properties of different systems from simple molecules to complex processes related to Air Liquide applications. The activity spans areas as diverse as adsorption, permeation, electronic materials, materials characterization, healthcare applications, thermodynamics and phase equilibrium, catalysis, physics of interfaces and nanotechnology. In a knowledge-based economy in which science-driven enterprises play an increasing role, molecular-level understanding of processes will contribute to enhance innovation, improve productivity and compliance, reduce costs, and accelerate product development starting from R&D innovative concepts. In this context molecular modeling is the tool of choice for reaching these objectives and for supporting R&D decisions. In process simulation activity detailed numerical protocols based on parametric simulations have been used for better understanding of process limitations and ways to avoid these. The parametric simulations are further coupled with a multi-objective optimization approach for identifying optimal configurations of industrial separation units.
