About Pradeep Kumar

Pradeep has a 38-year track record of leadership, strategic thinking, and execution as a senior leader in Indian Railways (IR), a $24B organization and the fourth-largest railway network in the world. As Railway Board Member, Pradeep was instrumental in restructuring of IR and became the first Member (Infrastructure) – Railway Board. In this role, Pradeep led a team of employees to expand and modernize railway infrastructure (track, bridges, signaling, telecom etc.), speed up rate of railway electrification, provide customer amenities such as WIFI across railway stations, and deliver best-in-class safety enhancements with a $10B budget. Prior to joining the Railway Board, Pradeep held multiple leadership roles in IR, including Director General of National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR) where he mentored and groomed over officers, Chief Safety Officer for South Eastern Railways where he implemented processes resulting in 66% reduction in train accidents, and Divisional Railway Manager/Vijayawada, South Central Railway where he headed a team of employees and delivered a 50% increase in freight revenue. Pradeep served as the Chairman of Rail Land Development Authority and Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation, where he led efforts to redevelop stations and provide world class amenities to passengers. Pradeep also served as the administrative secretary of several Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) of Ministry of Railways in the capacity of Member Infrastructure which execute large rail infrastructure projects. Pradeep was a founding member and executive director of RailTel Corporation of India, a $150M revenue PSU setup for providing telecom and ICT services. Pradeep holds a master’s degree in business administration from Southern Cross University (Australia) and bachelor’s & master’s degrees in electronics & communication engineering from IIT Roorkee (India). He is based at Delhi, India.
