About Prasanth Venugopal

I am a passionate researcher, educator, and innovator with over 15 years of experience in wireless power, battery systems, and sustainable energy technologies. Currently serving as a Tenured Associate Professor at the University of Twente, I lead cutting-edge research in Battery Electronics and Power Electronics. My mission is to drive transformative change in the energy sector by advancing scalable and sustainable solutions for e-mobility, energy access, and renewable energy integration. As a founding member and mission leader of the Battery Centre and an active contributor to the Hydrogen UT (Hy.UT) initiative, I aim to bridge the gap between laboratory research and real-world impact. My work is focused on advancing wireless power transfer, battery health management, and the development of power electronics for electric vehicles, energy storage systems, and grid-integrated solutions. Beyond research, I am committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of energy engineers. I teach core master's courses such as 'Advanced Power Electronic Systems' where I challenge students to design and develop power electronic systems from scratch. Furthermore, I also teach 'Electric Machines and Drives' which opens up electromechanics from a Maxwell's equation first principles. Through hands-on learning and scientific rigor, I empower students to become industry-ready engineers. My technical expertise spans Wireless Power Transfer (WPT), Battery Management Systems (BMS), advanced battery state estimation, aging and degradation modeling, and power electronics for electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage. I have authored over 50 high-impact publications, hold multiple patents, am a Senior Member of and have served/serving as an active reviewer and associate editor for leading Transactions.
