About Precious Barry

I’m Precious Barry, a 19-year-old youth activist, public speaker, and storyteller from St. Louis, Missouri. I come from Riverview Gardens and now attend Washington University in St. Louis, where I use every platform I have to make space for Black voices, youth leadership, and real change. I’m the founder and president of the first NAACP chapter at WashU, a space that didn’t exist until we built it. I’m also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, a published author (Why I Use My Voice), and the host of Say It Proud, a youth-led radio show on Beats District Radio focused on truth-telling and trust-building across generations. My journey started early, interviewing politicians, studying history, and speaking truth to power before I turned 15. Since then, I’ve worked alongside educators, organizers, and city leaders, and now serve as the Social Media Intern for the Office of the Chancellor. I’m also a part of The Sophia Project, where I help design youth-centered solutions rooted in healing and justice. Everything I do, from public speaking to writing to organizing, is about one thing: making sure young people from communities like mine are seen, heard, and respected. We deserve more than a seat at the table. We deserve the mic.
