My Name Is Priscilla Valentin, my first Job was a trainee audit assistant at Pool & Patel Chartered Accountants Firm. It enabled me to be flexible, motivated, fast learner and well-disciplined worker. While working there, I managed to practice my knowledge in preparing financials accounts for small clients of the firm and to sharpen my interpersonal skills. My desire for accounting led me to pursue my career in that same path and in May 2011 I accepted ANHRD’s scholarship to undergo my ACCA course. I am now a fully qualified ACCA professional who is currently working as a Financial Controller at Sacos Life Assurance Company in Seychelles since March 2018. Before joining the Finance team at Sacos I was working as a Senior Auditor at ACM & Associates and as an Intern at Ernest & Young (EY) Seychelles for the past three and half years. During my time at the Chartered Accountants Firm, I was mainly involved in Auditing and Advisory for clients in various sectors of the economy, specifically in the hotel industry, banking industry, insurance industry, Associations and other local and international business clients. It was challenging and exciting as I was able to apply my accounting, auditing and IFRS knowledge gained from my studies and became well versed and experienced. In addition to auditing and advisory I also provided tax advice as per the Seychelles Business Tax Act (2009) to clients and prepare and submit their tax returns when required. In my work experiences and exposures I have become an enthusiastic, energetic and hardworking person who is willing to meet client expectations and provide high returns to the company. This new challenging experience as a Financial Controller is the next big step in my career that offers me a learning and training experience in managing people and gaining ownership and responsibility in accountancy. This will help me attain more intellectually and develop my accounting skills more efficiently and productively.
