About Pritika Narayan
My research interests include genetic and epigenetic variants that drive disease risk and pathogenesis. I am particularly interested in the complex metabolic syndromes that are key drivers of premature death in Pacific peoples. For example, a striking pattern of metabolic diseases affects the Fijian-Indian population, a group that is significantly understudied in New Zealand and who experience disproportionately high rates of premature death and poor health. Identifying genetic variants that drive their predisposition to metabolic disease, not only would enable more efficient and accurate diagnosis and access to personalised medicine, but also enable early disease prevention and intervention.
