About Privilege Hangandu

I have a combined total of over ten years of professional experience in public policy research and health equity leadership, working in government, international development agencies, and academia. I specialise in global health equity, racial and disability justice, social policy, governance, human rights, and international development. My current work focuses on identification, removal, and prevention of systemic barriers experienced by racialized and disabled Canadians in health research funding policies. I also work on anti-ableism in health research to increase accessibility in policy and programs design and delivery in health research funding. At the same time, I maintain an active research profile in health policy, disability policy, gender, and other intersectional inclusions in the policy cycle. I'm currently working on a book volume on post-COVID social policy reconstruction in Sub-Saharan Africa. I understand the art of policy-making, public engagement, project management, and institution building both in the public and private sectors. I have advanced policy research and advisory skills in very complex institutional settings. I have published broadly in social policy, disability inclusive development, governance, development, and public policy. I have consulted as a policy and regional integration strategist for multilateral institutions like the African Development Bank and delivered advisory services on ECOWAS economic integration. I have an intersectional interest in the non-profit, public service, and in academia.
