About Priya Mohan

I am an experienced dental specialist, academician, and public health researcher. My research interests are in Head and neck cancer – epidemiology and its risk factor control - tobacco, areca nut, alcohol, human papilloma virus, and oral hygiene. My current research is in developing an oral cancer screening model, it is transdisciplinary research that comprehensively integrates social, behavioural, clinical, biologic, and epidemiologic factors within a multilevel framework by addressing the determinants of health and health disparities in cancer screening and high-risk habit control. This study was a region-based study within India aimed developing a culturally and linguistically appropriate cancer screening and habit control services in dental healthcare. This region-based study is intended to be scaled up. The mission of my professional advancement is to contribute to reducing health disparities and improve health equity among the underserved and underrepresented diverse populations through research, education/mentorship, community outreach, dissemination and clinical support for enhancing patient-focussed outcomes in prevention of cancer and to improve the quality of life of cancer patients. I am looking for research collaborations and support to conduct community-based participatory research and patient-centred outcomes research. I believe in community need based public health research that can translate to health policies, and for cancer researchers to be part of health policy. I hold expertise in developing, designing and executing research, developing questionnaires, conducting interviews and statistical analysis. I am an experienced teaching undergraduate and postgraduate dental students and in epidemiology and public health.
