Executive fellow, pioneering innovator and developer of numerous products that have been successfully commercialized in the manufacturing of optical fibers, optical fiber cables, optical fiber connectors, fiber optics, diesel particulate filters/ substrates used in vehicle after-treatment systems, specialty glasses for UV lithography and glasses for consumer electronics. 2022 Inductee in the "National Inventors Hall of Fame". Inventor on over 235 issued US patents and over 350 patents worldwide. Recipient of the IIT Delhi “Distinguished Alumni” Award, American Chemical Society “Heroes of Chemistry Award”, American Chemical Society's "Industrial Innovation Award", American Chemical Society "Eugene C. Sullivan Award", R&D 100 Award, Corning Optical Communication’s “Beacon Award”, Corning Inc’s Outstanding Publication Award (twice (2006,2025)), and Corning Inc’s Development Excellence Award. Author of over 70 archival publications and 55 conference presentations. Key inventor of products that have received a number of industry awards, including Time magazine’s “Best Inventions of the Year”, R&D 100 Award, Corporate Innovation Award, and Indian Automotive Technology & Innovation Award. Serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Ceramic Society and as a Industrial Advisory Board member for the Dept of Chemical Eng at the University of California at San Diego. Also serves as a reviewer for more than twenty five leading journals in the area of fiber optics, optical physics, chemical, and glass/ceramic sciences.
