About Quinnlyn Murphy

In May of 2022, I graduated from NC State University with a bachelor's degree in biology and a focus on health behavior. The goal of my degree was to receive a well-rounded education that consisted of a strong foundation of biology and other hard sciences, while simultaneously allowing me to learn about relevant humanities courses, such as sociology and community psychology. During my time at NC State, I worked two jobs – one at the lab of Dr. Scholle, a virologist studying and teaching on campus, and another at an outdoor experience and equipment company, REI. As a research assistant in Dr. Scholle’s lab, I was able to learn extensively about the inner workings of a number of viruses, as well as materials and substances that may suffice as a valid anti-viral measure. At REI, I learned invaluable knowledge about the products and practices that can make our outdoor experiences as safe and fun as possible. This was especially important to me as someone who enjoys backpacking and sea kayaking. In the next few years, I hope to be working towards my masters in epidemiology, after which I would ideally be working either internationally or nationally in the field of public health with a focus on communicable diseases.
