Background

About Rachel Chan

Globally Minded - As a graduate of Asian Studies and a lover of travelling, I understand the world is large and complex even though we are getting closer every day through technology. Every part of the world has their own cultures and customs and that is what I believe makes it such a great place. Not only am I bilingual, but I have a keen interest in other cultures. Curious, compassionate, and open-minded, I love learning and engaging in new customs and traditions. These different points of view allow me to look at a situation multiple ways and, in turn, allow me to create more diplomatic approaches. •Intensely Passionate - I am a person with a lot of creative energy and I channel it into everything that I do. During my 4 years at university, I took a common interest group with 15 people and helped make it into a university recognized organization with over 300 people. I went from Event Coordinator to Treasurer to President. I participated in every aspect of the club from its creation to its current status. Through my dedication, I created a brand that is not only known at St. John's, but also one that is recognized on campuses all over NYC. •Jack of All Trades - When people see this phrase they rarely view is as a positive trait. However, I disagree. For me, being a jack-of-all-trades means that I am a quick learner and can easily adapt to changing situations. In my organization, I was involved with every aspect from event planning to budgeting to public relations to administrative tasks. I quickly learned all the different parts that came with creating and running and organization. When I finally became president, all the skills I had picked up were what made me a great leader. Not only was I able to understand the small details, I was also able to see the big picture and figure out how different aspects worked together to create the best results. When there was ever a problem, I was able to solve it because I had picked up all these different skills.
