Background

About Rachel Doser

Rachel is currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Colorado State University. Her research is geared toward understanding if and how the mitochondrial transcriptome (RNA transcribed from the mitochondrial chromosome) contributes to neuronal inflammation in aging and neurodegenerative diseases, mainly focused on Alzheimer's disease. She completed her PhD in Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Her PhD work focused on understanding how reactive oxygen species, normal byproducts of cellular metabolism, signal within neurons to impact neuronal excitability and plasticity. She is interested in understanding this fundamental mechanism because it could explain why memory and cognition is abnormal in aged and diseased brains that have elevated levels of reactive oxygen species.
