About Rachel Drobitsch

I am currently pursuing a Master’s in International Law at the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID). Alongside my studies, I am an active lawyer (Brazilian Bar Association, OAB n° 518524), and a researcher with the Freedom of Expression and Defamation Crimes Group at the University of São Paulo (USP). Education • I hold a Law degree from the University of São Paulo and completed an exchange program at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), earning a certificate in the Fundamentals of German Law. Professional Experience • I’ve interned in the Legal Department of the Brazilian Association of Investigate Journalism (ABRAJI), where I contributed to the Monitor of Judicial Harassment Against Journalists in Brazil. • My experience also includes an internship at the 35th Chamber of Private Law at the São Paulo Court of Justice. • My previous roles include working with Arcadas Vestibulares and interning at the XI de Agosto Legal Department. Research • With a scholarship from BAYLAT, I conducted research at LMU on SLAPPs (Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation) targeting journalists. • I also led an undergraduate research on the limits of parliamentary immunity and freedom of expression. • I’ve served as a teaching assistant for Constitutional Law I and II and participated in several research groups at USP, including the Advanced Constitutional Law Study Group (DCA), and the Law, Internet, and Society Research Center (NDIS). Languages • My mother tongue is Portuguese. I am fluent in English (CAE), and German (TestDaf Zertifikat, Onset Zertifikat, and Fachsprachkurs for Legal German), and have an intermediate level in Italian. I am committed to advancing the cause of media freedom and human rights. I want to apply my skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact in the field of international law.
