About Rachel Eisgruber

I have recently completed my Mechanical Engineering undergraduate degree with a minor in Digital Design and Fabrication at SUNY New Paltz. This past year my capstone team and I, created a desktop-sized 3D printer using binder jetting technology. This experience has taught me a lot about teamwork and what it takes to create something from the ground up. It also confirmed that this is what I love to do, I love building and creating. Over the course of my studies, I have learned valuable professional skills such as experimental design, prototyping, and the importance of communication. In addition to my studies, I recently interned at the Hudson Valley Additive Manufacturing Center. The center provides students access to fused filament fabrication 3D printers for school projects. The center also works with local companies to create prototypes, art pieces, and finished products. My experiences there have helped develop my skills in manufacturing and has aided my growth as a mechanical engineer. Some projects I have worked on include: the development of a new method for processing builds submitted by students to the center. This included a new way of processing an incoming file submission so that it was better oriented on the printer so that the whole process is optimized. I have also worked on creating face shields for the local hospitals and first responders. This included removal from the printers, assembly, and quality control. Manufacturing is something I have enjoyed and been excited about since I began my internship, and I hope to continue working in this field.
