About Rachel Harmon

As an optometry student and past AOSA Trustee, I am deeply committed to shaping the future of eye care through interdisciplinary partnership and excellent clinical care that is tailored to meet the needs of our communities. While leading the AOSA chapter at NECO, I have collaborated with students, administrators, and national liaisons to jumpstart a program that seeks to educate students on the importance of advocating for their patients and profession in state and federal legislatures. I have gained skills in collaboration, communication, and team building; all of which are vital for empowering optometrists and providing quality care to patients. With the increasing prevalence of vision-threatening conditions, optometrists play a pivotal role in providing access to eye care services. I am passionate about the importance of low vision services in maximizing quality of life for patients experiencing vision loss. I believe that providing comprehensive care means supporting patients through every stage of their visual journey: from preserving vision to maximizing vision for enhanced quality of life. Furthermore, I recognize the vital role that research plays in driving innovation that improves patient outcomes. My current work as an OD/MS student explores retinal function through electrophysiology and visual perceptual responses. Through this work, I have gained skills in research design, critical analysis, and technical aspects of electrophysiology and psychophysics. In integrating my research endeavors with clinical practice, I strive to translate cutting-edge findings into practical applications that enhance patient care. By bridging the gap between research and clinical excellence, I aim to contribute to advancements in eye care that positively impact our patients' lives. I am excited to explore the intersection where my passions and expertise meet community needs. I am dedicated to continual advocacy for the advancement of optometry, driving positive change, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of our patients.
